Floppy runs on WIN XP boot

Whenever I boot up my computer, my floppy drive runs and
runs. I have to put a floppy in it to get it to stop
making so much noise, but then it scans the floppy for
ever and ever and slows my whole computer down big time.
I thought that Norton Auto-Protect might be the problem,
so I turned that feature off. For two weeks it was just
fine, then it started to act up again. What else can I
do? This is a new computer and no one wants to help me
with this - they all keep telling me it is a Microsoft
issue and I should contact Microsoft (nothing like
pawning the problem off on another person, hey?). I ahve
the Boot up floppy seek turned off in the Bios also.
Thanks in advance!

You need to do a search for 'A' in the startup folder and registry and delete
whereever it is calling on the floppy drive. This can take some time. Look
especially in HKEK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\microsoft\windows\current
version\run and the following items such as run once etc.

I have already done that. For 2 weeks, everything was
fine and then it started up all over again. Any other
thoughts? Thanks!

Unless you install or copy things to the floppy all the time there really is
no need to have it on at all.

Go into the BIOS and switch your floppy from 3½ to none. turn off te floppy
controller, reboot and see what happens.
