Floppy Required for P4P800 Deluxe? No boot.

I am attempting to get a P4P800 to boot for the first time. The power
comes on, HDD (SATA) seems to spin up, CD light goes on... but no
video at all, and no beeps. Have to power down via the PSU. I don't
have a floppy in this box - is it a requirement? Otherwise, any
suggestions about what the issue might be?

Hi,

If you have no video or beeps, it's got nothing to do with whether there is
a floppy present or not.

If you haven't already done so, try re-seatting the memory chips and video
card. Then unplug all the drives and see if you can boot into a screen. If
successful, try adding the drives one at a time - you might have a faulting
or incorrectly seated drive cable.

Usually no video means something is not connected properly, often the memory
chips. If still no success, there could be a motherboard problem.

Is the 2x2 12V power plug connected ?
Have you tried the motherboard while it is sitting on a piece
of cardboard ? Maybe you have a shorting problem due to an
extra brass standoff shorting to the bottom of the board.

Paul, you hit the nail on the head. Thanks! Neither of the two power
connectors are mentioned in the ASUS manual, and while I knew the main
one had to have a home, I ignored the little one.

As far as configuration, can I leave most settings to the default
values? I'm not going to o/c or anything. I have a P4 3ghz so the
hyperthreading will be used and I'll check the setting on that.
Otherwise are there any other items that need to be tweaked?

A site that covers setup of this motherboard well?

FWIW Page 2-28 is very clear about both power connectors being needed.
Default settings work very well for my 2.6 non overclocked system.

"no_one"

You meant 2-29 (at least in my manual). Don't know how I missed that - argh.
