Not every problem is obvious and most of the volunteers here try to help as
much as we can. My first guess would have been a virus scanner. Second
would have been adware/spyware. Third could have been a trojan or some
other type of virus. And there is always the remote chance you always had
something like Word/Excel/Outlook open that was looking for an old file you
had saved. I guess also either Office or Windows "file indexing" services
*could* have done something. But I would be basically guessing.
What finally did fix it?
