New WinXP pc won't read floppies made on older XP system or Win98 sytems. It wants to format the discs. Likewise, other systems want to format floppies made on the new system. System will read discs it made itself.
 
Hi,

It means the head is misaligned. If the new machine is under warranty, they
should replace the floppy drive.
