Floppy Drive trouble

The Device manager diagnostic tells me that the A: drive
is working but when I put a disk in the floppy drive and
click on Windows Explorer A:\ I get the message "Insert
disk in Drive A:" even though there is a disk in the
drive.

Can anyone help

floppy drive cable in wrong way does the power light on
floppy stay on all the time.

It seems WinXP floppy driver has problem with common 3 mode 3.5" floppy
drive. I hear will be fixed with service pack 2.
