Hey there,

I've noticed this anomaly in many other friend's
computers and wondered if it can be alleviated.

Every time Windows starts up the floppy disk drive is
accessed and usually several times during the boot up
process. It happens roughly when you get to the logon
prompt.

Is it normal? Can it be stopped?

Thanks,
J. Smith

I stopped it by disabling my floppy in the BIOS.

Have you checked that your anti-virus software hasn't got a setting to check
the floppy drive on start up?

In the past the dreaded Findfast used to check floppy drives for word
documents to index as well?

Hi The same happens on my system, I think it is normal?

Yes, this is normal. You can change this feature within your system's
BIOS.. When your computer boots, it says, "Press <insert key here, usually
DEL, F12 or something else> to enter BIOS"

Change the order that your computer looks for the operating system from
A,C,CDROM to C,CDROM,A or something else, so that it never needs to go to
the A drive. There may be other options that apply depending on your bios
mfg and version as well.
