XP computer using a floppy drive for some minor backup. Question please;
I bought some Memorex floppy discs that say they are formatted for pc. I
started using one to back up my address book and favorites.
They exported ok and I've been adding to them periodically with no
problems. I get the normal window saying the files are there and do I
want to replace them and I click yes and the files are updated.
Just last night, I began getting an intercept message telling me the
disc wasn't formatted. I was curious, and as I have additional backup
for the address book and favorites, I tried to format the disc, which
should have erased everything and put the disc back to square one.
Instead I got a message telling me that XP couldn't format the disc.
Anyone have any idea why this has happened? Do I need to take all new
discs regardless of what they say and format them before I use them?
Thanks much,
Dudley

Floppy disks are not robust, they wear out. Floppy
manufacturers do not spend a lot on making high quality long
life media. Try cleaning the drive with a floppy cleaner.
Try a different brand.
Backup to CDs and or flash media. I like the multi-reader
drive from Lexar that will use CF, SD, and XD cards, work
with camera and as hard drives. You can get 16-512 MB
cards.

Once the flash memory USB "drives" got down to a resonable
price, I ditched the floppy for those. I carry a 256meg one on
my keychain with all the critical apps I need......utilities,
antivirus etc. Also passwords in an encrypted database. When
you get old, LOL, sometimes you forget things ;)

Thanks much for the reply.
