Hello again, I just installed an Asus M2A-MVP mobo withAMD athlon 64x2
4400cpu, bios set to default windows XP home. When I insert a floppy
it asks do you want to format yes/no if I say no "as the disk has info
I am trying to read" it will just give up as though I never answered,
If I say yes it comes back "disk cannot be formatted" I even installed
a new floppy drive but same problem. Can anybody solve my problem?

Check to see that it's set right in the bios...
maybe you have it set to something other than the presumed 1.44 megs???

Sometimes damaged disks just won't format on Win-98 and later.
(They *did*, quite successfully under DOS.)
Did you try a fresh new floppy?

Also: Check your floppy cables.
More problems with floppy drives caused by cables than anything else.

Does the light stay on all the time? If so, the floppy cable is
reversed. All disks inserted with the drive in that condition will
become useless unless formatted.

When it acts like that it usually means the floppy is no good or at
least to that particular drive it is no good. It is possible that the
new floppy was no good but not likely. If it wasn't a new drive cleaning
would be something to try. If you have a lot of old floppies chances are
about half of them have gone bad.
