When I try to use my floppy A: drive I get the message:
A:\ not accessible. Incorrect function. I have gone
through troubleshoot, installed a new drive, and gone
through troubleshoot again. The drive is enabled and I
have uninstalled and reinstalled the so-called driver and
rebooted with no solution to the problem. Any
suggestions? Thanks

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 140060 on support.microsoft.com should
help. If it doesn't search for related articles.

Unfortumately, Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 140060
is not relevant to this problem.

Three of us have now reported the identical problem.

If I ever find the solution by random trial, I'll report
it here.

So far, I've tried uninstalling my SP4 because someone
said it had numerous problems, and reverting to SP2. This
did not fix it. I've reinstalled SP4 but my test (remove &
reinstall SP4) also screwed up Outlook Express (msimn.exe).

Don't you just love the quality of the error messages?
(Your <any program here> has done something or the other
wrong and will stop now. OK?).

I RESOLVED THE CD-ROM OR FLOPPY INACCESSIBLE PROBLEM (FOR
ME ANYWAY) by uninstalling "Norton Internet Security".

This problem or similar was also reported in the last few
weeks by:

"David E. Oakley" <[email protected]> 8-24
"FrankV" <[email protected]> 8-30
"Eric S. Schurmann" <[email protected]> 9-03
"Fadi" <[email protected]> 9-15
"Gregg" <[email protected]> 9-17
"Gregg" <[email protected]> (same guy?) 9-17

Now I see that "Senator" <[email protected]> has much
more info on this in his 2003-9-03 post. He did not use
the keywords "not accessible" and inaccessible. I also
have Nero Burning Rom installed. Hope this helps to point
the way.

It turned out that my problem was with USB. The CD-ROM in question was
external using USB. I found that when the drive was turned on, 100% of
processor time was taken servicing interrupts. I moved the drive from one
USB port to another one and the problem went away. There is a printer in the
adjacent port so it may be that they weren't playing nice with each other.

I also had the nero burning room installed and was using a
USB cd burner. I removed the nero burning room and In CD
software and this resolved the drive A problem.
