floppy drive inop

It's not a real big thing, I can't even recall the last time I used it. But
when I went to use it yesterday, every program I had said there was nothing in
the drive.

Is this normal with XP ? Did I waste a slot bringing this floppy from my win98
machine ?

It was on a win98 P1 166 mhx w/mmx, now on a XP Pro P4 3.2Ghz w/HyperThreading.

It's probably an unsupported three mode floppy drive. In your BIOS you might
be able to disable the three mode support and have it work just fine.
