Dear Microsoft Personnel
i still use floppy diskettes as the basic source of
transferring data from one computer to another. recently i
installed the much celebrated and talked about WindowsXP.
amazingly its compatibilty with floppy is unnerving. every
time i insert a disk, it gives a "cyclic redundancy error"
or asks me to formatt an already formatted disk. i thought
that newer versions come with newer ease and style but
installing XP has proven disastrous for me. Please kindly
look into the problem and advise a set of measures that i
must undertake.
Yours sincerely
Saad Bin Javed.

Greetings Mr. Bin Javed,

I am afraid you misunderstood the purpose of where you made your request.
You did not send a message with the Microsoft Corporation. The news group
to which you posted, is *not* a Microsoft Corporate website, service, or
repository. Nor is it a contact point for Microsoft directly.

It is a public news group, comprised of comments, questions, and answers
that are shared freely by users of Microsoft products.

I encourage you to save the attached link, so that you may contact Microsoft
more easily in the future:

Having said all of that, I suggest you consider the possibility that your
floppy disk drive may be in need of updating... While XP can work happily
with floppy drives of many varieties, it is important to be certain that the
drive is configured properly in Device Manager, and that you have the best
(usually that means the newest) device driver for it. Consider going to the
drive's manufacturer's website to download the best driver for it. Many
times, these sites also offer free utilities to better support your drive
(including diagnostic programs to aid in troubleshooting.)
Here is a short list of drive makers... but as I do not have your brand
name, I can only guess what type you have:
