Floppy drive error

I recently installed Windows 2000 Pro on a Gateway computer (previously winME) and get two different floppy drive errors when trying to access a:. I have searched many forums and find that I am not alone but few have rational answers. The two errors are (1) "You do not have access to the folder A: see your administrator for access to this folder" and (2) "The disk in drive A: is not formatted do you want to format it now?" I've seen a lot of fixes with a purchase of a new floppy drive but I am convinced that it is a Win2K thing because I installed Win2K from the floppy boot and had no problems. Additionally, the A: drive on this Gateway seems like an annoyance to replace - not what you'd call plug and play friendly motherboard. Any help would be appreciated.

In one of my computers the see your administrator message
came up even though it is not in a network, I just told it
to share the srive and it started reading the A: drive. In
another computer with win2k, sp4 after installing a slave
hard drive the error message is insert disk. I am also
waiting for help on this one.
