I am not able to access information in any floppy disk.
I get a meesage "Please insert a disk into drive A"

Even i cannot boot from the floppy disk A.
I have not open my PC at all. It is not dropped or kicked
or .. damaged in any physical way? It was working well
before?

I checked the device manager and it tells me that the
device : the floppy disk" is working properly!!
Could this be a software problem OR a hardware one?
How could you tell if it is this or that?
Any one know about this?

I have the same issue with my 'old gal' -- a '99 Dell
since my upgrade to XP. It attempts to read a floppy on
startup but after that nada. I have seen many odd little
problems like this with friends who have upgraded from 98
to xp. I am beginning to think that I should have save
my $100 and thrown it into a new computer.

Maybe you should spend your money on a better O/S instead.
According to what I have seen in these newsgroups Windows XP seems to
cause floppy trouble on many computers, some of them very new.

Reports like:
On dual boot computers floppy works OK in older Windows versions but not
on the same computer in Windows XP.
Computer is able to start Dos from a startup floppy but doesn't work in
Windows XP.

If you can't boot from it, it can't be a software problem, since
Windows has not yet been loaded when you try to boot. It has to
be hardware.

But first make sure the BIOS boot order is set to floppy first.

It's doubtful it's your drive. I'm having that problem on
two computers and is started at the same time. Haven't
seen a resolution posted yet.
