Windows XW seems to have a problem with my samsung floppy
drive. Every time I try to access it, no matter whether
it contains a disk or not, windows tells me A:\is not
accessible: íncorrect function.´

It is a software problem, when I put a bootable disk in
the drive it works when starting up. And it used to work
under windows 2000. Now I installed windows XP and no
matter what I try I cannot get it to work. I deleted it
from the device manager and it was found again, doesn´t
seem to have any problem. I tried updating windows, put
SP1, all driver updates, doesn´t work.

The same problem occurs when I use a memory stick in the
USB.

Does anybody know what is causing me all this trouble and
how I can solve this?

try installing it manually from add hardware after
uninstalling it...clean the heads and check if your floppy
works in other computers..check the hardware
connections..otherwise replace the floppy drive...with
say a sony drive...about usb it should have no
problems...does the stick show up in my computer...set
your hardware drives and usb slots to autoplay...

There is nothing wrong with the hardware. When I start
the computer with the windows ´98 bootdisk I can access
floppy disks so no problem with the hardware...

USB memory stick installs, appears in the explorer,
doesn´t give any problem in device manager, everything
seems to be working. Only when I try to access it gives
the same error message, incorrect function.

Now also my CD player starts giving the same error, after
trying to open a CD created with NERO. I read there are
problems concerning Easy CD creator, perhaps this also
applies to NERO????

I tried autoplay, does not work as well.

More suggestions?

Thanks, Femke

I see hundreds of these posts in the XP newsgroups, but I never
have seen a post as to how someone solved the problem. I don;t
have this problem, but it interests me.
