Floppy disk error

Without knowing the exact error it's hard to diagnose, but here are some
pointers ...

Is the floppy making a rubbing sound as it spins? You might be able to
switch the cookie inside the disk to another floppy case. This is delicate
work, usually an exacto knife is good for this, and you have to be sure not
to get your fingerprints on the cookie.

Is there NO sound from the floppy? Or does the drive access light not come
on when you try to read from it? Check for a loose cable at the back of the
drive. There are 2, one smaller 4 pin and a wide flat cable. Plug and
unplug them a few times. This action cleans the contacts.

I saved a 5 page research paper on a floppy disk, and now it won't open.
It said something about, "drive, " and now it just states, "invalid." Can
anyone help? I am desperate to get my paper off this disk.

This is not good.

I assume where you said "driver" you meant "drive".

You might try CopyDisk in Windoze Explorer and see if it can read the entire
disk to make a copy. If it reads part of the disk and fails later then the
media is probably bad and your file is toast. If it fails right off I'd
still try the plug/unplug the connectors. Believe it or not, dirt is your
#1 enemy and the darndest things get dirty. You might also you a drive
cleaner disk on it and LET IT DRY before you use any other disks.

The know the driver is okay, because I was able to read other files. It
said, "The driver containing the selected file is inaccessible." The drive
makes sounds as though it is trying to open it. It makes that noise for a
very long time.
