Somewhat unexpectantly, my new XP came w/o a floppy drive. I installed one
from my previous system, connected both power and signal cables, but it is
not showing up in "My Computer." What causes this ??

BTW, the slave hard drive that I also installed appeared exactly as expected.

Thanks Mike, worked like a charm, although it does surprise me that Plug&Play
didn't work for the diskette drive, while it did for the hard drive (slave).

Floppy drives are optional, hard drives tend not to be.. by disabling it in
BIOS, no resources are used by the floppy diskette controller.. obviously,
in a system that is not supplied with a floppy, there is little point in
allowing a non-existent device any resources..

Windows Plug n Play will only find motherboard devices (and anything
connected to them) that are enabled in BIOS..

The Primary, Secondary, SATA, Parallel, and serial ports can be
disabled in the BIOS. Then anything plugged into them will not
work. FWIW
