Has anyone else just noticed a flood of "new" messages which are in fact
old-dated messages previously unseen appearing in all the spyware
newsgroups?

Yes and thanks for asking. I thought it was just me.

Yes--I'm seeing the same thing--between a dozen to a hundred messages
appearing in groups.

My present guess is that the server admins have found some problems and are
shaking things loose.

I'm seeing messages which head threads to which folks using the HTML
interface have responded, and which I've never seen the initial post in, for
example.

Same here. When I subscribed to MSAS groups about a month ago I saw many
incomplete threads, replies without the original posting. It looks like this
has been "repaired" now...
I noticed the web interface has been updated recently.

Are you seeing this in Outlook Express?

There have been a few OE updates recently that may have finally fixed it to
download all messages. OE would frequently be hit and miss as far as
downloading all messages or even headers. I think that finally got fixed.
I was very annoying to have to reset the ng and redownload all the headers
to follow threads completely when it would skip messages.

I'll admit to seeing this via OE, however, this change ocurred at a specific
time last night--long after any recent update to OE. I'm quite certain this
was a change at the server end, but don't have any confirmation of that.
