I have NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT with 256MB of DDRIII memory installed. I have
installed Flight Simulator X on my XP, and it works great. when I try to run
that game, there is an error message appears: "FLight Simulator cannot run
because the version of Microsoft DirectX(R) installed on your computer is
incompatible. Please reinstall DirectX 9.0 by running Flight Simulator Setup,
or download the current version from www.microsoft.com/direcx".
I am afraid to install DirectX 9.0c because I have DirectX 10 installed,
which came with my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.
How can I cause my Flight Simulator X run with DirectX 10?

Thanks,

MS has not yet released the DX10 patch for FSX. Sometime later this year.
Lots to read on that here

As for DX9 on vista someone else hopefully can tell you what to do as I am a
few light years away from trying vista...some even say it slows down gaming

You can install DX9.0C and it will put the components it needs into the
OS. It will not overwrite DX10, or anything else. It should fix your
problem.

The DX10 patch for FSX is hopefully going to be released later this year
(after FSX SP1). But, with the crappy NVIDIA drivers, and no DX10 ATI
card, it wouldn't be too effective anyway.

I had the same problem and the same concerns about over writing DX10 with DX
9. Its fine, DX 9 will not over write DX 10 but will install the DX9 3D.dll
file which will allow all your DX 9 games to run. If you want to check its
all ok then after you have installed DX9 run dxdiag and you will see windows
vista still reports DX 10 as installed.

Hope this helps.

Ok, at FS insider, they are announcing an April release for SP1 for FSX, and
looks to me like an October / November release for the DX10 patch, which
should be released about the same time as the new expansion pack for FSX,
FSX: Adrenaline.
