cannot uninstall fs2004! control panel doesnt work, neither does uninstall
from start menu. am using xp. any ideas anyone...

Hi jonftz,

Here's how to uninstall a game when using Add-Remove programs fails:

Step A: Start your computer in Safe Mode by holding down the F8 key.

Step B: Reinstall the game to the same folder it was installed to originally,
and then try to uninstall it again using Add-Remove programs. If
that fails, delete it's folder and any save games in My Documents.

Step C: Install and Run Regcleaner and if it finds any stray registry keys for the
game, delete them: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

IF you installed the update available on the Microsoft site you WILL
first need to uninstall the update as a separate uninstallation. Read
the notes on Microsoft's site carefully about the sequence AND
requirement to manually delete the backup folder.
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/downloads.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_update9.1_english.asp

Also see the notes about add-ons, this would include the NoCD patch,
requiring different versions for the original (as on the original CDs)
and updated simulators.

Sorry Dave and Jimmy, the FS 2004 install isn't at all cooperative if a
damaged installation is already present on the hard drive. All you get
is a pop-up that says you have to uninstall it first. I've seen reports
that a simple folder deletion takes care of what the uninstaller doesn't
(files from add-on planes etc).

Hi RobertVA,

Agreed. I also suggest(ed) deleting the installation folder if the
uninstallation process fails to remove it. We're on the same page. :-)
