Flight Simulator2002, Professional Edition.

The game loads but when trying to run it an error messagecome up: Software not compatabile. "File: traffic.dll". I disablled virus and firewall programs but it still will not run. The Opening screen comes up with option to load or not load but it does not make any difference. It reverts back to the desk top. The "readme" file said to try setting up a new sectio
in Fs2002.CFG called [OLDMODULES] AND TO TYPE IN THE NAME OF THE DLL (traffic.dll) and set it for on or off
Traffic=o, or 1.
Tried that. Still wont run

Sounds like some nasty 3rd party apps getting in the way.

I'd try completely uninstalling Flight Simulator, uninstall any add-ons.
Manually delete the directories, and the .cfg files (if they're stored in
your profile with 2002 - can't actually remember? Anyone?)

Reboot, and then reinstall Flight Simulator, make sure it's working then try
installing any 3rd party applications (1 at a time so you can find the
guilty party) if it's what I think it is.

It usually happens if you installed F2002 before applying SP!,
un=install and re-install the simulator after applying the service
pack generally does the trick, otherwise check this KB article:
