Hi everybody,
will Microsoft sit on this one again and let lots of people in nowhere land again. I bought (big price) FS 2004 in Canada cos i'm Canadian of course and I've been trying to make this simulator work. Of course I've tried many things went to a friend still it wouldn't work; downloaded the most recent drivers for the video card and yet nothing works. I have visited several newsgroups and seen that the problem is very, very frequent. One person even told me that in september when he bought the game everything was working fine but all of a sudden he ended up with the same problem. Microsoft. please wake up and smell the coffee. After all this can't you see that a microsoft game is not even working on your own machines. Wake up! and give us some kind of support.!!!

Here it is. After having completed the full installation successfully the game will simply not start. The disk 4 is in the CD drive as required and when I attempt to start the game the cd start spinning I see the Flight simulator page flash on the screen and then nothing else happens. The computer works fine with any other programs. I have downloaded and installed the most recent video card driver from ATI with no luck.
I'm well above the pre-requisite for the computer. here is what I have: The proc. is a 1.7 GHZ intel, Windows XP, hard d. 37.2GB, ram 256M and video card radeon 7200 Ver. 6.14.10.6404. Can anyone help me?

What do you mean by not start, pop up with an error message, show the splash
screen and then disappear or what exactly.

Are you running as administrator? Do you have any anti-virus software
running, best to close down any other program in memory, if you need help
with doing this give us a shout.

I tried the game by closing any other program running in the background ; Norton , panicware... doen't work. When I say it doen't start I mean that the cd start spiining I see the opening picture of FS2004 quickly flash on my monitor then nothing else happens. The cd drive stops spinnig and that's all. I have no error messages, the computer is not frozen and all other programs are working!

There are some troubleshooting scenarios here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;228985 I would
step-by-step see what applies (some obviously don't), but in particular look
at methods 4-10.

Hi Chris,
I've tried all the steps applicable to me in the troubleshooting with no luck. I still have the same problem. When I installed the lastest driver for my video card I didn't see any significant changes on my screen. Is that normal? What else should I tried? I am desperate now and I hope I didn't buy this game for nothing,

Check the FAQ below, there are other problems than the Safedisk
protection that can cause this problem, hope this helps...

Hi FS_mvp at Microsoft,
I looked several times at the FAQ site and cannot find anithing there that helps me. I spent most of my Sunday trying to make FS2004 start with no luck. The version of FS2004 that I bought is the french version simply because nowhere could I find the english version in Montreal. Now I just went on a French gaming Microsoft newsgroups and surprisingliy enough a lot of them have the same problem! One fellow phoned Microsoft and was told that in the french version of FS2004 package a mistake had been made and that the Disc 2 was in english resulting in our failure to enjoy the game. Is there any truth to that? Can you find out? Help!!!

Call your product support number and talk with them. If, in fact, there is a packaging mistake, they'll make it right. Don't let the first person to answer give you an unacceptable answer. Ask to speak to a supervisor who will investigate the problem for you. Ask for an SR number, so you have a logging of the telephone call.
