Flight Sim 2004 startup problems

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone could give me a useful hint on this
one. In brief: been owning MSFS2004 for almost a year
now, been playing it with no problems. Yesterday I tried
to play it again but the game would not start (it just
hangs at the welcome screen). Uninstalled and reinstalled
everything, re-attempted startup, same result. I'm really
at a loss here: what have I done in the last 2 months
since I last ran it to screw it up? I am one of those
people who like to try various programs so I have, in the
course of the last couple of months, "messed" quite a bit
with my computer ... but other than the FS04 problem,
it's running very well.

So, ..., short of wiping out the HD and starting clean,
what other choices do I have? Running a registry cleaner?

Pentium 4 2.53 GHz
XP Home
512 MB Ram
NVidia 5600 Ultra

How To Repair Windows:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
* Download the Sasser patch to reinstall it after you repair Windows!

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
