Fleeting Error Messages

Is there a way to "freeze" a windows screen in order to
see error messages that are too rapidly overwritten by the
next screen? When I boot, there are two boxes between the
black Windows XP screen and the blue Windows Starting
screen. They appear for a fraction of a second and I
think they are trying to tell me why XP won't go beyond
the blue screen.

Boot in Safe Mode and check the system event log. It will show you what
errors are being generated. To do this just hold down the F8 key after the
system POSTs and you'll see a boot menu with this option.

I did and here are the messages in the Security log
I have 4 Failure Audit lines in Security log, as follows
(newest to oldest from top to bottom)
1)Logon failure Reason: Unknown user name or password.
User name: paul
Domain: blahblahblah
Logon Type:2
Logon Process: User32
Authentication Package: Negotiate
Workstation Name: to0_complicated_to_type

2) Logon attempt by MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Logoin account: paul
Source Worstation .....
Error code 0xC000006A.

3) Same as 1 except Auth Package is Advapi

4) Same as 2

Does that make any sense??

How can I freeze the screen to see what are the two error
boxes that fly by between the black screen and the blue
screen?

I welcome any help you can give. This is most annoying
and frustrating.

Thanx
P. Cress.

Incideb\ntally, I managed to freeze the error screens.
They were a faint box titled (I think) User Logon, showed
as if someone had typed Administrator with a blacked out
password. This was overlaid by an error box with a
message to the effect that there was an account
restriction, with only an OK to click.

What's going on???

You could press ALT+PrintScreen
This copies the open window so you can open paint and paste it there to read
it.
Or simply pressing PrintScreen copies the entire screen and can also be
pasted into paint.
