More and more I keep coming to sites that say I don't have Flash when I have
the latest version (Player). When I click on the download link, it shows the
spinning FLASH sign saying installed successfully. But even after rebooting,
when I go to lots of sites, it still shows I have to get the latest player.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try uninstalling Macromedia Flash Player:
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
"How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control".
Then reinstall Macromedia Flash Player:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/flash7-it.html
