Flash Drive not recognized second time?

Winxp SP3, RAM 2GB,HD 160GB
When I first time put my memory stick of my Camcorder into the slot of
the case of my computer it jolly well recognizes it and the contents get
displayed very well. I use 'safely remove hardware' icon and then remove
the stick from the slot. Now supposing I want to use the memory stick
again the slot does not recognize it. I have to reboot the PC and then
it gets recognized. This cycle ---remove reboot -- remains the only
solution to me at the moment. This is true for all the memory sticks I
do have here.
Kindly guide if this problem could be solved?
Thanks in advance.

What happens if you just simply remove it without using the safely remoev
the device function? That feature is only important if you're writing to the
disk at the time you were to pull it out. If you're not doing anything with
it you can just pull the device out, at least I do all the time.

Thanks for your guidance Galen. My problem will arises when I have to
remove it and reuse it after writing to the disk. However if I remove
the flash drive without safely remove the device, it works fine second
time without rebooting the PC.

'safely remove hardware' removes the whole cardreader.
Ejecting the card is the right choice here:
Right click the drive in the Windows Explorer and
select "Eject".

Your problem is that you are removing not only the flash drive, but the
_whole card reader_ when you "safely remove device"
I'd just RigthClick on the disk letter and choose remove (in My Computer)

You mean "Eject."

I knew the drive reader was being stopped but thanks for the alternative -
eject. I take it, it will 'close' the card like safely remove but still keep
the driver loaded for the reader
