Running Windows 2000 SP4

Seems to be happening on our workstations more so than the server. If I go
to a command prompt and type NSLOOKUP and then do a search for say
www.cheese.com.

The reply is www.cheese.com.mydoman.com

The address points to my webserver.

If I type "server" it comes back with server.mydoman.com and my webservers
IP Address.

Any clue what might be going on here?

Thanks!

You have a wildcard record in the mydomain.com zone. It is being found there
by using the DNS suffix search list. If you will add a trailing "." at the
end of the query it won't happen and if you will remove the wildcard record
from the mydomain.com zone it won't happen.

It is common for this to happen if you have a third level domain name as the
Primary DNS suffix, ex. sub.mydomain.com, in that case if you uncheck append
parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix (on the DNS tab of TCP/IP
properties).
