I'm having problems booting up to one of my OSes on my PC. I'm on
multi-boot, having Win98 on C:, Win2000 on D: and WinXP on E.

I recently "discovered" WinXP Recovery Console's commands...one of which is
Fixmbr in my attempt to "recover" my Windows 98 which refuses to boot
because of an "Invalid System disk prompt..." I want to try fixing it with
Fixmbr...but what exactly does it do??? coz it gives a very "grim" warning
prompt before I further mess up my pc.

I don't know much about subject, but here is a site where XP and 2000 are
mentioned, plenty of screenshots as well;

Heres Microsoft XP page on the command;

if above link is broken then use;

Eh? I don't know how it will affect a dual boot but I know when I have had
boot problems in the past, using FixMBR actually fixed the problem. Fdisk
would wipe the drive.

fixmbr writes a new XP-style Master Boot Record to the HD in question.

The MBR is what the bios loads after its done with its power up tests, and
in XP it's what looks for the boot loader in the XP partition which
displays the boot menu. Your Boot.ini needs to be set up to display all
the possible boot options.

Standard XPSP1 home version boot.ini here and FixMBR used on many occasions
and has never done anything harmful to the system.
