Not all my icons are missing links but some of my programs in the start menu
and in the control panel are missing their original icons that was associated
with that progrqm. I created a short cut to these programs to see if I could
change the short cut icons and found that these programs are looking into for
an icon in a directory that no longer exist, desktop third party theme
program. I have tried some of these sites such as Windows XP Tweaks and ran
line 4 but it does not work. How do I go in and change the path so I can have
the original icons to come back.

I have tried all the suggestions with no avail. The issue I think lies
somehow a third party has changed the prefence to a path to certain programs
to change the icon settings to there icons. I guess I need to write the
company to see if they would share what aspects of the path they changed.

Exactly what I pointed to first: Third party desktop enhancers. Good luck!
