Hi all. How do I fix file system errors? I have tried using Windows' Check Disk
and Norton Disk Doctor but the problem doesn't get fixed.

I am using a IBM Deskstar 80GB - disk checked out fine under self-test, and
running Win XP Pro.

TIA.

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging
operation.

Do you happen to have a swap file on D: ?
Run
chkdsk D: /F /R

Please see other post in the thread. Stupid me, I did not check the
Automatically fix errors box. I have done that and Check Disk has repaired some
problems. I hope that settles it.

Do let me know if you have any comments about the error messages. Thanks.

PS. I also get this Delayed Write failure popup on my taskbar - any idea what it
is (says all data is lost etc)?

The Scan Disk and fixes haven't solved the problem. The computer runs very
slowly at startup, and then crashes to a blue screen, with a Kernal data inpage
error (and something about Ntfs.sys).

Some of the error messages are in my other post in the thread.

Thanks.

I don't, Peter. I have a D drive but it's in use. What does it look like - time
to get another drive?

Possibly a dying drive. Also, it's possible that you have malware active on the
drive.

First verify the physical condition of the disk with the disk manufacturers
diagnostics. You can also use a SMART tool to examine the condition of the
disk. If it is toast we don't even have to get into the chkdsk stuff.

These utilities often make a dying drive worse and more difficult to
recover.

Very unreliable drive - practically guaranteed to give some sort of
problems.

If I were you, I would backup what I could, use the IBM utilities to do
a full drive erase, and reinstall from scratch.

Actually, if I were really you, I would get myself a Seagate drive and
bin the Hitachi...
