Running Halo & UT2003 my system would lock up and a hard reboot would be
required to bring it back. At first I thought it was a memory issue, perhaps
the card was an overclocked LE, I had bought it used & very cheap.
Seems my Apollo Devil Monster II 8500 may heat up more with these games. Not
surprising since these are all games that use advanced directx functions.
After lowering the core and memory to the lowest levels that Rage 3D tweaker
allowed me, I ran Halo with no issues, no switches and with no changes in
the settings. I then played around and found that the core was the cause of
the lock ups. After a few tests and some reboots, 230/230 seems to work
best. Since this card was running at 250/230 it seems a small price to pay.
Anyone know how to change the cooler on the core and can recommend a better
one?
Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, maybe just my card is a problem
child, but it may help other LE users as I suspect that the cores in these
are not the best or ATI would have used them to make 8500's & not LE models.
