fix sector zero corruption?

I installed win2k on a machine that already had XP, and now only win2k
boots. There are boot choices for both OSs, but they both go to win2k.

Another symptom: when I use Acronis True image boot disk (I want to
restore a previous image of the XP partition), I get messages like
"True Image has not found any disk drives" and "Failed to read sector 0
of the hard disk 0". I can however boot XP is from a boot CD, and after
I boot I can see all the partitions on the drive and everything behaves
normally.

What's going on here, and can I rebuild sector 0? If I can't, can I
restore sector 0 by doing a reformat (fdisk?) of the whole disk?

You downgraded your boot loader. Copy ntldr and ntdetect from the XP CD.

I doubt True Image is doing anything.

So the win2k ntldr and ntdetect got installed on the XP (drive C:)
partition? I thought the win2k install would put them on the win2k
partition. Lots I don't know about MS.
