I've been putting these things together for quite a few years and this is
the first time this I have seen this. Setting up an ASUS P4S533 with a
Celeron 2.4. When I start the computer for the first time I have no
keyboard. The only way I can get the keyboard to work is to NOT clamp the
cooling fan down on top of the processor. If I just place it on top of the
processor and not throw the clamp down leavers the keyboard works fine. ANY
suggestions would be grateful.

There is a short between the motherboard and case somewhere. Examine the
keyboard connector CAREFULLY. If it's not there, it's underneath the
mainboard somewhere. -Dave

Or I guess there could be a defective trace in/on the MB and the slight
flexing caused by the clamping of the heatsink is causing it to open up. I'd
hope for the short of course since it seem to recover when the flex is
releived.

There might be a screw you missed stuck under the board but that would more
than likely short the board out.
or
The clamping down of the cpu fan bracket sounds like a good one. The force
you have to use is absurd. I still see no link between the cpu fan there.
More likely the short is in the fan it's self and grounds out when clamped.
or
My best guest would be the screw closest to the ps2 and USB ports was over
tightened or you used a metal stud where you should have used a plastic one.
I have seen this on occasion and believe that on most boards the plug for
the pins for the cpu fan are in that general area.

Better safe than sorry if there is no screw it won't do and take it back.
Shorts are no fun and can and will cause further damage and headaches to
you,your mobo and other components.

Just my little 2 cents

Just to let everyone know. I had left a post in the case near the processor.
When I locked the processor down, it flexed enough to touch that post and
must have been causing the problem. Thanks to all that responded.
