I put everything together, and to my joy when I hit the power button
everything came on. However, I still have a problem. This is what is says
on the screen at bootup:

"CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded"
"Please re-setting CPU or Memory Ratio/Frequency in the CMOS setup"

I know there's a jumper for CMOS on the MB. Do I just have to reset the
jumpers on that?

consult your manual...some boards use jumpers...
others have the adjustment in the bios itself...
and still other boards will give you both options

You need to go into BIOS setup (press DEL as it starts to boot) and set up
the drives, cpu etc

Post full system spec.

Can you get into the bios settings before or after that message?
And in that case, what are your bios settings for CPU and memory?

As with the other post...check your motherboard manual. It should have an
entire section on BIOS setup. After the loaded failsafe defaults, the screen
should tell you to press (usually "delete") key to enter BIOS. The checksum
is not really an error message...it is normal for first boots as you have
not loaded the settings particular to your system.

That is a normal situation(checksum) when you install ALL components for the first boot. It is always best to install the
minimum(cpu HSF, memory, PSU, Video), for the first boot. Not that it is NECESSARY but it helps to get things ready such as 'Sata or
HD setting and correct any CPU auto detect problems + memory timings. In addition to everything everyone has mentioned.

The message seems to be saying that you set an incorrect CPU to memory ratio
in the BIOS. Go into the BIOS at startup and check that its correctly set.
(You do not use a jumper to do this on modern motherboards.)
