Firewire to USB

I want to buy a Firewire device(external soundcard), but only have USB 1 + 2
connection on my desktop. Is there an adapter I can use without loss of
speed or do I have to install a firewire port?

Buy a firewire PCI card and install it.
FW and USB are different.

yes

If the device functionality you want comes in a PCI card
version you would be better off with that option.
