Hi,
I have a Dell 8250 with a Pinnacle Supplied FireWire (1394) PCI Card. This
was a card that has been working on my Win98 and then moved to my WinXP. The
last I used this for capturing video was Mar-2007.
This weekend I hooked up my camcorder and was shocked to find that the PC
did not recognize the camcorder. After further analysis, i found that the
card is not listed in the device manager. It used be listed as IEEE 1394
Host Controller and is not seen anymore.
A lot of discussion topics pointed to the fact that XP SP2 and additional
patches tend to remove hardware from the device list. I tried a few patches
from Microsoft and is still not showing the card.

To eliminate various factors, I borrowed a firewire card from a friend and
hooked it into the PCI slot and that works fine. I tried installing my PCI
card in his machine..... it fails to showup in the device listing....

Either the card is blown up or the drivers are not yet happy with the
current setting.....

Any ideas to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
V

Borrowed Firewire card in your PC works Ok but your Firewire Card in
his PC doesnt? That would tell me that it's
a problem with your Card.
