Firewire Network

I setup a firewire network in addition to my usual 100 mbps I now
can transfer files at 400 mbps. All I did was connect a firewire cable
to each system and that was it.

I am looking for some way to transfer files by selecting 100 mbps or
firewire 400 mbps, It seems the only way I can be sure the firewire
connect is used is to manually disable the other connect. I can then
enable it once the file has started but that is a lot of work.

I also am trying to connect one machine to the Internet using the
firewire connect but am not sure if this can be done.

Anyone with ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

To make sure that a file transfer uses the FireWire connection, access
the other computer by typing the other computer's FireWire IP address
in the Start > Run box in this form:

\\w.x.y.z

To share a computer's Internet connection over FireWire, enable
Internet connection sharing on the Internet connection, and specify
the FireWire connection for the home network connection.

Thanks Steve that worked. I have drive Icons with each IP that I use.

I use Windows Task Manager to monitor the transfer and was wondering if
there are any other applications that can be used.

Everything seems to be working except that one system no longer appears in
Network Neighborhood. I have gone over all the settings but I can't see what
is wrong.

System 1 firewire 169.254.101.68 255.255.0.0 NIC 192.168.1.102
255.255.255.0

System 2 firewire 169.254.65.228 255.255.0.0. NIC 192.168.1.101
255.255.255.0

Everything is set to obtain IP.

I can no longer see System 2 on network neighborhood.

I can't think of anything I have missed but System 2 does not show in
Network Neighborhood.

Thanks for any help.

You're welcome, John.

Do you mean My Network Places? In my opinion, network browsing
through My Network Places is inherently unreliable. You can spend a
lot of time trying to troubleshoot it, but I don't think that it's
worth the effort.

I recommend using "\\computer" or "\\IP-address" (or desktop shortcuts
with those targets) to access other computers on the network.

OK, that is fine. Better your way, I was wondering why there was that
problem and what caused it. The only real problem I have now is my settings
in OE 6 have changed. Now all my NG messages are marked 'read' as soon as
they appear. I tried removing all the groups and subscribing again but that
did not help. It must be a global OE 6 thing as all identities are affected.
I am trying to find a different browser and so far Agent is not it. My whole
system has been acting strange since Windows Update installed I.E. 7. I went
back to I.E. 6 but some of the problems remain. I tried System Restore but
that did not fix the read message issue.

I want to try another browser like maybe Firefox but I hesitate going
further if there are still problems with O.E.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm sorry, but I've never used Outlook Express for news groups and I
can't answer questions about it. I've used Agent for many years, and
it does everything that I want.

I recommend posting your OE questions in this news group:
