Often Vista 32bit Windows Explorer hangs when I try to browse my Maxtor
OneTouch Firewire HD.
Mainboard Intel D975XBX, 4GB RAM. NTFS file system.
In Power Options my HDs are set to turn off after 20Min. I can hear the
Firewire HD spin up before Explorer hangs.
Sometimes I even cannot kill Explorer using Task Manager. One time I
switched the HD off an got a
BSOD. I did not install any Maxtor drivers (don't need the front panel
button functionality).
The HD worked fine under XP using an ASUS A8N-SLI board.
I Windows System EventLog there are some entries:
Event ID: 57 The system failed to flush data to the transaction log.
Corruption may occur.
Event ID: 9 The device,
\Device\Sbp2\Maxtor&OneTouch&0&0010b920_00b767bd_Instance00, did not respond
within the timeout period.
As many people I know similar errors from XP:

In my case they went away after moving from USB to Firewire.
