Firewire harddrive not recognised

Hi,

I use an external firewire harddrive (Gericom 250 GB HDD) for backing up
my files. I had no problems using the device under XP, but Vista refuses
to work with it. The IEEE 1396 to ATA (or something like that) device is
shown in the device manager, but Vista finds no volumes on it. When
putting in the plug I can hear the usual "hardware-found-sound".

I already tried connecting the harddrive to another computer running on
Vista with the same result. The device works when I connect it via USB,
but as it then only runs with USB 1.1 it takes ages to do a full backup.

I suppose there is a problem with the driver, but I have no idea how to
fix it.

Thanks

Just guessing, but I'd agree it's a driver problem, but nothing to do
with the harddrive. Your machine must have a firewire controller chip,
and that's the device which needs the updated driver, not the harddisk.

The usual fix is to check the manufacturer's website for new drivers.
You may need to check with several different websites to get a fix:
your motherboard, computer, and firewire chip suppliers will generally
have different websites, so check them all.
