Firewire compatibility issue with DSL

Has anybody heard or seen an issue with XP that uses a NIC
to run DSL and trying to install a Firewire card. When I
install the card I can not access the internet anymore. My
NIC is not disable and no conflicts show up in my Device
manager with both devices. There is no bridge installed
between the NIC and 1394 card and I disable the card both
in the network interface and on itself and I still cannot
access the internet. I removed the card and still no
access. I had to go back to an older restore point to get
back online.

I am having the same problem. Look at my post on "IEEE
1394 Install" on the 10th. After installing my video
capture card with a firewire port I lose the ability to
connect to the internet and must remove the card AND do a
system recover prior to the installation to regain
access. I can ping other systems both local and remote
but the DHCPserver cannot obtain a valid IP address or
resolve DNS address so no internet access. We are not
alone, I have seen other posts with the same problem but
no solutions that would work so far.

Thanks for replying to my message Mark. I have seen some
information on the web about this problem we are having.
It hasn't worked for me but it may for you. This link show
you how to remove the bridge that sets up automatically
when you install your hardware.

I also tried to remove my NIC card, Install my 1394 card,
remove the bridge and connect to my DSL line using my USB
connection and I still cannot access the internet. So it
is not just a conflict with NIC cards.

Send me a message back. What Chip set is in your Pinnacle
capture card. My 1394 card is from Belkin and they use
Lucent chips. I am going to buy another card and try that.

Have you called Pinnacle Tech. Support? What did they say.

FYI. You may want to look at you owners manuel on you mini
DV camcorder, most of them now have input jacks so you can
record your old movies onto your new camcorder then use
your original Firewire port. If you don't need the
Pinnacle capture card you can return it all and just buy
the Pinnacle software only.

Sometimes the 1394 will overwrite the LAN settings in the
TCP/IP settings. Double click LAN choose properties then
choose support then click repair. If it is a PPPoE setup then
someone else will have to chime in.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had seen that article also
but my system did not have a bridge installed, I even
tried installing one to see it it would help but no luck.
I cannot remove my NIC card as it is integrated on the
motherboard or I would have tried that also.
My Pinnacle card uses a Phillips chip to impliment the
1394 protocol. Pinnacle support was useless, all they
would say was that it was a Microsoft problem. I nearly
returned the card but I am too stuborn to let bad support
defeat me. Dell support who made my PC was just as bad
and first told me to update my modem driver and it wasn't
even for the brand of modem I have! After sending me to
Microsoft postings I had already read they said they are
not network experts and I should contact my intenet
provider.
I have contacted Microsoft support for help and a support
technician is helping resolve the problem now.
I will update you on what we find. The first suggestion
was to try dissabling any firewalls, next will be to
capture my system info with msinfo32 both with and
without the Pinnacle AV/DV and SB Audigy cards installed
and then send it directly to the technician working on my
case.

Has microsoft help you yet??? I have been digging around
and I haven't come up with anything yet. I seen a
microsoft article 817571 and it talkes about connectivity
issues but with my firewire card installed it my IP
address goes back to an invalid address.

Still no resolution to the problem. After confirming that
I had no network bridge and sending before and after
system information, I received the following message from
Microsoft support "we have involved a higher level
support professional to work with me on this issue" That
was on the 16th.
If you would like to communicate direct send to my
address and I will keep you posted on what Microsoft
finds for us to try.

Has anyone solved this problem yet? I have removed my ALi USB 2/Firewire
combo card and did a restore several times.
When I plug in the combo card and restart, I can see the activity of my DSL
Router (looking for MS & McAfee updates) until the CPU starts loading the
drivers for the "new hardware found". Then the NIC card stops talking to
the network. The DSL and Router works fine with another PC on the LAN, and
I cannot "see" shared drives from either PC. Even swapped the NIC card with
another and other slots. I don't have any errors on any hardware.
I do see the NIC, Firewire, and USB2 being assigned IRQ 5 but I can't change
the settings (its greyed-out) even in Admin login (running XP-Pro).
