Firewire card causes high cpu usage

I changed the motherboard and reinstalled windows xp home. I noticed that the
cpu usage was very high . . .60 to 80%, never down at 2% as it used to be.

I removed lots of programs and some cards I did not need . . .the cpu usage
returned to normal.

Now I installed the firewire card and the cpu usage problem is back

Any ideas?

have a firewire in my system and the system is using 1 percent as I type
this message, you could have a conflict so try put it in a different slot.

Found in my experiences that like scsi cards, firewire likes its own
hardware irq to work well. This is at the bios level, XP's irq
interpretation or remapping means nothing in the formula.
