I am running vista ultimate on my laptop. I record audio in my spare time,
and Have a firewire audio interface which does not work with vista. Hence
the the reason I looked at VPC 07 to install on my usb external hard drive.
Only worry is, will VPC even help me, or will the host computer just run deal
with the firewire interface as soon as I plug in? I'm not sure if VPC was
made for Hardware/peripheral compatibility issues, or just
software/application.

Also, would just installing the XP on the external disk and trying to
choose at startup which to use( xp on the external, or vista on the drive C).
I know that it requires some fiddling to get this to work, and I'm not a pro
hacker, but If it is possible, which do you think will be better for my
situation?

THanks so much.

VPC does not support firewire even if the host does. VPC is not designed
for hardware compatibility issues.

There is no "fiddling" in multibooting Windows (Vista, XP, or Win2000,
clients, servers, or whatever) as long as you install the oldest OS first
and the newer OS's in release order.

There are serious issues concerning Vista's recovery options when
multibooting XP and Vista however. I advise you not do it on a production
or primary home computer.
