Hi,

I'm new to WMM and to camcorders, and video in general.

I have a brand new WinXP pro SP2 systyem. I just purchased a Panasonic
PV-GS150--used. It appears to be in good shape. And I can record and
transfer the video to WMM via usb just fine.

But I also got a DV-firewire cable. When I try to transfer my video to WMM
with the firewire connection, WMM says "A video capture device was not
detected...."

I called Panasonic techsupport and they told me that they didn't think the
problem was in the camera but rather in the sdoftware. I am wondering if
anyone else has had this problem? Is WMM capable of capturing video over a
DV-firewire cable?

I can live with the usb connection (USB 2.0) but isn't firewire faster?

Not only is WMM capable of using firewire it is best when using firewire.
There are a few things you can look at here to find out what the problem is.
It likely isn't software related unless the DV port is disabled in "Control
Panel -> System" which you should check first.
If that isn't the case and the camera isn't the problem, although tech
support would have no way of knowing that without testing the camera, then
it is probably either the firewire cable or card.
If you have a friend with a camera that accepts firewire do some swapping to
try to determine the problem.
.. Use their camera on your computer via YOUR firewire cable to see if it
works.
.. Do the same but use THEIR firewire cable.
.. Use your camera on their computer with their cable then with your cable.
These things should point you to whether your card, cable, or camera are
causing the problem if any of them are.
