Like others around here, I am having problems with getting the mobo to
send DV-in to my camcorder. I just thought I'd post here my (failed)
attempts to get it work, in case others have solutions!

My setup:-
Athlon XP 2100
512 mb generic PC2100 RAM
80gb Maxtor HDD
A7N8X dlx motherboard (rev. 1.04, bios flashed to 1004)
Panasonic DS-8B (I think) camcorder
(other less important stuff)
Win XP / Win ME dual boot

I have the latest asus tested nForce2 drivers (1.16?)

I have tried the 1394_filter from asus (which is supposed to work with
Sony camcorders, so I thought I'd give it a try anyway) - google for
1394_filter.zip in the groups and you'll come up with the right link.
I've run this under XP only. No joy at all.

I have tried the MSKB article 810032 (specifically for Panasonic
camcorders - addresses enumeration problems really, but thought I'd
give it a go). I've run this under XP only too (as it is an XP
update, that's a no-brainer!). No joy at all.

I've installed the firewire card that I got with Pinnacle's Studio DV.
That works perfectly for DV-in and DV-out.

I'm going to try to get hold of some friend's camcorders to test JVC
models too, but I I'm not holding out much hope.

Someone posted here a while back that they had a case number from asus
(http://groups.google.com/[email protected]&rnum=1)
- heard nothing else from this.

I don't want to whip my mobo out to solve this problem - anyone out
there now the answer yet?

Cheers!

Matt

Are you sure that your cam corder supports DV-In, a lot have this
crippled in the UK as due to some stupid EU directive it means more
tax! Unless the camcorder states DV-In then its more than likely
DV-Out only.

Pug

Thanks for your concern Pug, but I think I pointed out that when I use
my dedicated firewire card rather than the onboard ones that DV-in works
just fine. I had to hack the firmware of the camcorder to do this
(another story) as it didn't come enabled by default, but that bit
definitely works!

Another bit I forgot to put in the previous post was that I have also
tried swapping the connecting header on the motherboard from firewire 1
to firewire 2, but that provided no joy either.

The search continues......

flawlessly....

Can you post the version of your mobo (rev 2.0? rev. 1.04,5,6?) and
the drivers / bios versions you are using.

Cheers!

I'm using a rev. 1.04 board with the latest bios (1004)

IEEE1394 driver is "OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" Ver.
5.1.2535.0.

I can't remember the version of the Nvidia drivers i'm using but most
of the drivers have version 2.7.5.0.
(i think it's "NForce2 all in one version 1.16 ")

good luck!

Micky.

For what it's worth I also have an A7N8X deluxe (rev 2) and a JVC
camcorder that works flawlessly.

Have you tried installing SP1?

I use a DV cam here too (panasonic NV DS-30)
it works ok here. XP picked it up as
soon as I connected the firewire cable.
(with SP1 installed). I am also using an ASUS
mobo but not a deluxe (the firewire is a PCI card)

There maybe an option in BIOS, for it, if the
firewire is built in? which needs turning on?

Yes, I have SP1 installed. The A7N8X has firewire on board, which
works fine for DV out (i.e. receiving from my camcorder and
identifying the camcorder properly), but fails on DV in. Many others
have posted with the same problem, I just thought I'd get specific and
make it my mission to have the definitive listing of what works and
what doesn't - that way maybe we can spot the problem.

As I said, my PCI firewire card works fine, just not the onboard
ports.

I'll keep trying......

btw, got a case number (!) from Asus - 98218 - will post back here if
they come up with anything!

Latest update - borrowed a Samsung VP-D87Di camcorder from a colleague
at work, and this works perfectly with both my 1394 add-in card (which
works with my Panasonic cam too) and with the onboard 1394 ports on the
A7N8X-dlx. Just to test, I also tried my panasonic again, but it still
won't write using the onboard firewire, but still works with the add-in
card.

Curious......

Anyway, thought I'd keep this thread going until someone has some better
suggestions!

Maybe there is some way that DV-in is produced by Panasonic that differs
from Samsung giving these results. I'm hoping to borrow a JVC camcorder
soonish to test that one too.

I'll keep trying...
