I have a new computer with XP. Since it comes with a
firewall, is my old ZoneAlarm redundant? Is there any
reason to reinstall it?

You don't need 2 firewalls.

Thanks

.
xp does have firewall to turn it on go to network
connections click network adapter/properties/advanced tab/
protect my computer. Although your Zone Alarm probably a
better firewall than xp's I don't know Zone Alarm as I
have norton. I would install your zone and disable xps.

John, I was led to beleive that the xp firewall checked /
blocked only incoming possible problem data but not
outgoing. Is a firewaal not required to check outgoing
mail?

Hi Marlynn,
I disabled the XP Firewall and use Zone Alarm. I just feel safer with it
somehow.
Anne.

Marilyn,

XP's ICF blocks only incoming attacks very effectively. However, if there is
any trojan planted in the system, ICF won't monitor it. In this case, an
application based firewall such as ZoneAlarm or Sygate would do the trick.
It asks you which application you want to allow access to the internet. So,
if a trojan attempts to access the internet (outgoing), you can easily trace
it with an app based firewall.

Keep ZA and disable XPs firewall. XP's works but is
rudimentary, giving minimal protection for newbies &
those who cannot understand the tech details of it all.
If you like ZA, than that's what to use as it's a good
wall. IMO Sygate's even better but... <G>.
