Hello All,
Is anyone using Outpost ver 1.0 (free)
Is it OK? Any bad points?
Does it co-exist with KAV ?
TIA

Used it, switched to Kerio 2.1.5 (also free)

I was very pleased with it, easy to configure, nice preset rules for
different types of programs. Could be my lack of skill, but it was a b*tch
to configure with p2p-programs like K-lite, couldn't get it to work, so I
switched to Kerio.
Does it co-exist with KAV ?

Don't know, my guess is: sure, why not ?

I use the Sygate - updates itself with a voice over message too :)

Thanks for that Rod,
Have been using Kerio 2.1.5 for over a year and like it. I now have KAV and
unfortunatelly it doesn't like Kerio so am looking for an alternative
(preferably free) so I'll give Sygate a go.
Thanks again

I used to use Outpost ver 1.0 before upgrading to pro (OT) version.
Two things I came accross :

- compatibility problems with Easyphp on Win XP
- as another poster noticed, Outpost took some time to configure p2p
programs.

Antoine..isnt the p2p configuration problems simply because outpost is
usually running (default) in rules wizard mode and therfore prompts you for
every change of port /address which it should do?.The reason i believe most
other firewalls have no such problems is because the programme is usually
either allowed or not allowed i.e blocked or given full connection
permissions.I believe its similar to just putting the p2p programme in
outpost "trusted "section where its given full permissions , something which
may not be desired. However i believe im correct in saying that if a p2p
programme is "allowed" with sygate for example it is given full connection
permissions and in essence is the same as outposts trusted section?

Hi Bassbag,

I am always using Outpost in rules wizard mode indeed. I don't know
well current versions of other firewalls (before using Outpost v1.0,
I tested ZA and Sygate) so I cannot confirm your assumption :
"Sygate net connection for program x" <=> "Outpost net _full_
connection for program x".

That said, as you pointed out, it is quite risky to set up Outpost to give
full authorisation to a program, what's more a p2p one.
