If I am using a Linksys Hub, is it still necessary to use firewall
software? I think I read somewhere that a Linksys Hub acts like a
hardware firewall and therefore a software firewall is not necessary.
Checking here to see what the pros say.

A Linksys ROUTER acts as a hardware firewall, not a hub or switch. Check
which one you actually have BEFORE you decide to uninstall or disable the
software firewall.

I recommend you run a software firewall as well, even if
you do have a router. A hub does you no good in terms of
security, a router will. I run a router with a built in
hardware firewall, and Zone Alarm Pro 4. Look at ZAP4,
it has many other features such as pop-up ad blocking and
web filtering if you have young people using it, you can
filter certain types of sites. You can usually get it
for $20.00 after rebates at Comp USA or Best Buy or
somewhere like that. Well worth it.

Greetings --

Even good hardware firewalls do nothing to protect the user from
him/herself. Almost all spyware and many Trojans and worms are
downloaded and installed deliberately (albeit unknowingly) by the
user. So a software firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, that can detect and
warn the user of unauthorized out-going traffic is an important
element of protecting one's privacy and security.

I use both a router with NAT and Sygate Personal Firewall, and
have not conflicts between them.

Where does one purchase one, how much are they and are they easy to set up
and configure?

Purchase from LinkSys online, or CompUSA or Office
Plus/Max/putyourownnamehere, WalMart, KMart, Best Buy, Circuit City,
Staples, Target - you get the idea. Cost? It varies, depending on
bells and whistles. Set up? If you can read the manual, you've pretty
much got it made - just plug it in...
