I am trying to make my home network wireless ... my new
wireless printer won't work unless I turn off Microsoft
ICF (firewall). Any ideas on how to get around this? I
hate not having a firewall but I do want a wireless
printer/fax etc..

Greetings Cheryle

The XP built-in firewall is only intended for direct connections to the Internet. It must be disabled on local area networks. The XP firewall blocks file and printer sharing. I suggest investing in a third party firewall such as Norton Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm. These third party firewalls will do more than what the XP firewall can do. XP's firewall is really a basic firewall

By design, the Internet Connection Firewall (notice its name) blocks
file and printer sharing. It's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet, not on a local area network with other
computers and printers.

In other words, ICF is the wrong tool for the job. Get a more
configurable firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, which can protect your
network from access by other Internet users while allowing access by
your own computers.
