How do I check that the firewall XP is configured correctly to give
me enough security?

The ICF will never "give me enough security" - as it only works one way
(incoming traffic only) - if you want "enough security" you will need to
purchase - and configure - a third party solution.

Alternatively, you could download and install the free
version of ZoneAlarm, which would be an improvement over
the Windows XP firewall.
