My new BitDefender Internet Security anti-virus program has a firewall that
they recommend be set at all times, and I have the Windows XP firewall set to
be on as well. Should the WXP firewall be turned off now that the BitDefender
wirewall is on?
Thanks

Yes.

Thanks to all for your replies. I turned off the WXP firewall (the most
immediate thing to do) in the Windows Firewall window (General tab) and left
the BitDefender firewall on. However, while the settings for the WXP Firewall
have been set to OFF, the main 'Security Center' window still shows it green
and ON. I've re-booted my computer and it it continues to show the WXP
Firewall Off in the Settings window and On in the main Security window.

Is that because the Security Center window is still registering the
BitDefender firewall?

Thanks

Probably. Look more carefully at the Security Center entry for the firewall.
There is a drop-down arrow (or button) to the right. Click on it to see the
details. It probably says something like "you are protected by the
BitDefender firewall".
