Firewall program quits after one minute

I have tried Norton Personal Firewall and ZoneAlarm. Both
quit running after about minute.

I am running Windows 2000 Pro on a Dell Inspiron 5000
using a cable modem.

How do you know they quit after one minute? Do they bring up an error
message?

Are there any events in the event log related to this happening?

I don't know anything about Norton's firewall but the Zone Alarm one will
have a service with a name like TrueVector in your list of services... is it
started? If not, what happens when you start it?
